The counterfeit products (Glucometer and Test Strips) of a prominent pharmaceutical company were being sold at one of the medical stores of Ahmedabad. Since this Blood Glucose Monitoring System was detecting incorrect sugar levels, some customers started taking medicines of Diabetes to control their blood sugar. Since people started consuming medicines based on wrong diagnoses, they started showing their own side-effects on the body.

After receiving information about the lead, Netrika’s team initiated its process of investigation. The samples at the medical store were observed meticulously so that their authenticity can be known and later procured for client’s approval. Once the client confirmed about the sample being counterfeit, our team started the process of liasoning with crime branch team of that area. We conducted surveillance for few days to ensure the stock availability at the store. As soon as we got to know about the delivery of the new stock at the store, we took our team to the target and carried out the necessary enforcement action in coordination with local police personnel.

A mix stock of both original and fake medical products was available at the shop during the investigation. Since the counterfeit was a replica of the original, it became difficult for our team investigator to ascertain the difference between the both. However, after a formal product training by the client, a sample was procured from the target shop and sent to him for confirmation.

A successful enforcement action was taken against the counterfeiter. The shop owner was arrested, while large number of samples of the Glucometer and Test Strips available at the shop were seized. The news of the enforcement action was published in some of the leading newspapers to make people informed about such activities.
